Mountdillon system (Bord na Móna)
10th April 2006

The Mountdillon system spans Roscommon and Longford, and is primarily concerned with delivering peat to Lough Ree power station at Lanesborough. At this site one can see the unusual sight of two power stations within yards of each other, as the old Lanesborough power station has not yet been demolished (correct at April 2006). We were granted the priviledge of entering the works at Mountdillon (a few miles west of Lanesboro'), and saw many locomotives we would not otherwise have seen.
